Laser Hair Removal

Appointment Instructions

When having unwanted hair removed with our Laser treatments we ask that you review our instructions for what to do the days and hours before your treatment and after your treatment. If you have any questions, contact us and we'd be happy to walk you through what the laser hair removal process will be and how you can prepare for it.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Laser technology can reach the deep hair follicles yet protects the skin by using a chill tip. Unlike electrolysis which kills one hair follicle at a time, the laser reaches and treats hundreds of follicles at a time.

Areas of hair are treated with a focused beam of concentrated laser light which selectively absorbs the melanin in the hair shaft, as well as in the surrounding hair follicles. This causes thermal destruction of these anatomical sites and disrupts the hair follicles' ability to regenerate.

PRE- Laser Hair Removal Treatment Instructions

Prior to your laser hair removal treatment we ask that you follow the following instructions. This will ensure that your treatment will give you the most effective results.

  • 6 Weeks Prior to Laser Hair Removal ... No tans are allowed. A broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen of 30spf or higher should be used 6 weeks prior to and during treatments if area being treated is or will be exposed to sun. A tan may reduce the effectiveness of your treatment and increase the chance of temporary color change. Avoid sunbathing for few days before & after treatment.
  • 4-5 Weeks Prior to Laser Hair Removal ... Do NOT wax, tweeze or have electrolysis or use depilatory creams at least 4-5 weeks prior to your treatment.
  • 4-6 Weeks Prior to Laser Hair Removal ... Bleaching is sometimes allowed. You may be prescribed a skin bleaching cream to be applied daily to the sites to be treated for 4-6 weeks prior to your treatment if your skin is tanned or naturally dark.
  • 1 Day Before Laser Hair Removal ... You may be prescribed a cold sore medication beginning one day before the procedure.
  • 1 Day Before Laser Hair Removal ... Shave the areas to be treated 1 day prior to laser treatments. Excess hair wastes laser energy and reduces the amount of energy that reaches the roots.
  • 1 Hour Before Laser Hair Removal ... You may be prescribed anesthetic cream (i.e. tetracaine, EMLA or Elamax) to be applied to the treatment sites 1 hour prior to your appointment time.

Post- Laser Hair Removal Treatment Instructions

After your laser hair removal treatment we ask that you follow the following instructions to ensure that you have effective results.

  • Treated area must be treated gently. Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area.
  • Direct sunlight should be avoided and sunscreen of 30 SPF or higher must be applied everyday.
  • Sunbathing and tanning should be avoided for 1-2 weeks after laser treatment.
  • Each treatment should be 4-8 weeks apart as recommended by your nurse. This will allow new cycle of hair growth come out. Treatment at this time of new hair growth is recommended.
